Empower, Prevent, Protect: Advocacy for HPV Vaccination to Safeguard Young Girls from Cervical Cancer

The inclusion of the HPV vaccine in Pakistan’s national immunization efforts is the result of years of sustained advocacy and a belief that no girl should suffer from a preventable disease. AMAN has been at the heart of this journey, working consistently to bring cervical cancer prevention into national focus.

Through evidence-based advocacy, policy dialogue, and collaboration with public health experts and government stakeholders, AMAN helped elevate the urgency of HPV vaccination. These efforts contributed to the Government of Pakistan’s decision to procure and include the HPV vaccine, marking a major milestone in safeguarding the health of adolescent girls across the country.

With the vaccine secured, the challenge shifted from policy to people. Recognizing that availability alone does not guarantee uptake, Gavi extended an advocacy grant to AMAN to support demand generation and public awareness. This support enabled AMAN to take the conversation beyond boardrooms and into communities ensuring that parents, educators, and caregivers understood the importance of HPV vaccination and felt confident in protecting their daughters.

The national and provincial launch of the HPV vaccination campaign represented a powerful moment of collective commitment. Working closely with the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), AMAN supported the launch event that brought together government leaders, health professionals, educators, civil society organizations, and development partners. The event symbolized the transition from advocacy to action turning policy into protection.

Today, in close partnership with EPI, AMAN continues to drive awareness at the grassroots level. The organization actively engages teachers, parents, and healthcare providers, with a strong focus on the Lady Health Worker (LHW) Program trusted community-based workers who play a vital role in reaching families. Through schools, health facilities, and community forums, AMAN is helping address concerns, dispel myths, and build trust around HPV vaccination.

This ongoing effort reflects AMAN’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible girl has access to life-saving protection transforming advocacy into lasting impact and building a future free from cervical cancer.
